This productive variety offers long, pale-green, curved and very ribbed fruits, to be harvested before they reach 40 cm in length. Sliced, they form attractive rosettes, ideal for decorating dishes.
Botanically closer to the melon than the cucumber, this species naturally hybridizes with other Cucumis melo varieties.

Sow in pots at a temperature of between 18 and 20°C, 6 weeks before planting. Transplant with the root ball, after the last frosts, in planting holes enriched with compost, spaced 1 m apart in all directions. Sowing in the open ground is possible under the same conditions when the soil is well warmed and outside temperatures no longer fall below 15°C.
To obtain straighter fruit and save ground space, trellis plants.

There are 3 varieties of Armenian cucumber in Italy: Tortarello abruzzese, Tortarello barese and Tortarello siciliano. In the Abruzzo region, this variety is grown mainly on the coast, along river valleys and in medium to low hills. Production is mainly concentrated in the province of Chieti, particularly in Vasto and the Trigno valley, as well as in the Molise region. It almost entirely replaces the cultivation and consumption of the common cucumber.
