Snake Gourd

Ref : P4610 - Trichosanthes cucumerina
Bag of 10 seeds

This species produces long, slender fruits, up to 1.5 m long, which are orange-red when ripe. Consumed green and immature, when they are 30 to 40 cm long, they offer a taste somewhere between green beans and asparagus.

This species thrives best in a warm, humid climate.

in bucket, in the ground

Sow in warm conditions (20-30°C), 2-3 seeds per bucket. Transplant in mid-May, 1 m apart in all directions. In mild climates, sow in place, 1 m apart, once all risk of frost has passed.

Cucurbits like rich soil, and compost and manure. Mulch after planting to keep the soil moist. Regular watering will encourage fruit growth. Stake plants firmly at 2 m high.
