This messicolous variety, which is becoming increasingly rare in fields, produces cut foliage and an abundance of red, decorative, edible and medicinal flowers. They are much appreciated by butterflies and bees.

Sow on the surface, in trays under a well-lit shelter. Press lightly and keep moist. After emergence, prick out into cups and plant out when plants have 5 to 6 leaves, 20 to 30 cm apart in all directions. For direct sowing in the ground, sow in rows 20 to 30 cm apart. Thin to 20 or 30 cm when plants have 5 or 6 leaves.
In mild climates, it is also possible to sow in autumn for earlier flowering the following summer.
