This bremia- and sclerotinia-tolerant variety with a light heart produces wavy, extremely red "oak-leaf" leaves. They have a crunchy texture and excellent flavor.

Sow in pots or slabs at a temperature of 10-18°C, one month before planting. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil, press lightly and water. Once the plants have 4 leaves, prick out. Alternatively, sow lightly, directly into the ground, every 15 days for better staggered harvests, then thin out. This type of sowing produces hardier plants, less susceptible to bolting.

This is the first introduction from Frank Morton's new tribe of lettuce innovation. The "Merlox variations" have all been obtained with the "Merlot" variety, crossed with other larger, even tastier lettuces. This first combination involves "Emerald Oak" with "Merlot".
