This very old variety offers fruits 25 to 45 cm long and 10 cm in diameter at the base, with a straight or curved neck. The smooth, creamy-yellow skin encloses salmon-red flesh of good quality and pleasant flavor.
Fruits of this variety are low in seeds and can be kept for up to 3 years.

This ancient variety was first mentioned in Mary Randolph's "Virginia House-Wife" in 1824. It was introduced commercially in 1834 by Boston seedsman Charles Hovey. It is also known as "Canadian Winter Crookneck" and "Courge Cou Tors du Canada". It is mentioned in Vilmorin-Andrieux's 1883 book "Les Plantes Potagères".
