This old "Hubbard" variety can grow up to 5 m tall. Its 5 kg teardrop-shaped fruits have a slate-blue skin that turns pink when fully ripe. Their orange flesh has a pleasant flavor that improves with storage.

Sow in pots at a temperature of between 18 and 20°C, 2 to 3 weeks before planting. This ancient Native American variety, also known as "Pike's Peak", was handed down by Mrs. Van Dinam, who had been growing it in Missouri since 1840. It was introduced commercially by H. Sibley of Rochester, New York, in 1887.
