This variety produces dark green sprays, purplish stems and red-veined leaves. The sprays are followed by a fine crop of sweet-tasting stems. Each part can be eaten raw or lightly cooked.

Sow in pots under cover. Cover seeds with a thin layer of soil. Transplant when plants have 2 to 3 leaves, every 10 cm. Transplant when plants have 4 to 5 leaves, every 50 cm in rows spaced 50 cm apart, without burying the stem too deeply. For sowing in the open ground, sow lightly in rows spaced 50 cm apart. Thin to 50 cm along the row.
Spring sowing is possible as long as it is carried out just after the last frosts, to minimize the risk of early bolting.

This variety is a selection by Frank Morton of Wild Garden in Oregon. It's a cross between "Green Goliath" broccoli and two kale varieties, "Lacinato" and "Pink Peacock".
