This beautiful perennial species, otherwise known as "Kansas Feather", can grow up to 2 m tall. In its second year, summer and early autumn, it produces dense spikes of fuchsia-pink flowers. It is used as a medicinal plant by Native Americans.

in the ground, in bucket

For spring sowing, store seeds in the refrigerator for a few weeks. Sow in pots under cover at a temperature of 18°C. Keep moist. When seedlings have 5 or 6 leaves, prick out 30 cm to 40 cm apart in all directions. Spring sowing can also be carried out directly in the ground, in well-warmed soil. The same seedlings can be sown in autumn and stored in a cold frame.
