This variety, originally from India, produces red to black seeds on stems over 2 m tall. The seeds are very popular roasted like "popcorn".

Sorghum bicolor is a dye plant widely used in Africa. It is the leaf sheaths, often colored red, that are used for their anthocyanin content.

Sow light-colored, directly in place, in well-warmed soil, in rows 60 cm apart. Cover with 2 cm of fine soil. After emergence, thin out to leave one plant every 30 cm.
