Sow in pots, under light cover, 4 weeks before the last frost and cover with 1 cm of soil. Water lightly. Transplant into the ground, after the last frosts, at a minimum distance of 40 cm in all directions. For direct sowing, sow lightly in sufficiently warmed soil and thin to a minimum distance of 40 cm in all directions. To promote germination, soak seeds in water the day before sowing.

It produces numerous seeds and spontaneously resprouts.

This variety originated in Bavaria, Germany. It is one of the legendary varieties that were at the origin of the Seed Savers Exchange in the United States. It was entrusted to Kent Whealy by Baptist John Ott, a farmer living near St Lucas, Iowa, in 1972.
