How to grow squash
Squash plants are transplanted into the ground from mid-May, once the last frosts have passed.
In warm, loose soil enriched with humus (two weeks before planting, add compost to the holes where the seedlings will be planted), transplant the seedlings into a sunny spot, spacing them 2 m apart in all directions. Mulch around the plants, as squash need moist soil to develop properly.
Squash skin is porous and can encourage the development of disease. Throughout their growth, it is advisable to raise them off the ground, using a crate or tile. This should be done with care, to avoid damaging the stalk or fruit. The slightest impact will cause rot.
