How to grow zucchinis?

Plants are transplanted into the ground from mid-May, once the last frosts have passed.

Transplant zucchini plants in a sunny spot, in warm, loose soil that has been enriched with compost (two weeks before planting, add compost to the holes where the plants will be planted). Transplant, keeping a distance of 1 m in all directions.

Squash need moist soil to develop properly, so mulch around the plants and avoid wetting the leaves and flowers when watering.

For more information, consult our guide to transplanting plants.

When and how to harvest zucchinis?

Zucchini are harvested as and when needed. Cut off the stalk with a pruning knife to avoid damaging the stem and leaves.

Yellow Sativa Selection and Nimba zucchini are early-season varieties, harvesting from May to October, while Verte de Milan/Black Beauty is a mid-season variety whose first fruits are picked in June.
