Ref : F1755P

This ancient variety is reputed to contain an abundance of CBD, from 4 to 8% (it contains no THC, or less than 0.2%), depending on analysis, terroir, ecotype... and advertising! It can be used for CBD, for its fibers, for its edible seeds or simply as a very generous source of biomass for plant compost.

Adult plants of this variety measure between 1.5 and 3.5 m.

Carmagnola is the oldest traditional Italian dioecious hemp variety (i.e. producing both male and female plants), from which the Italian dioecious varieties "Bolognese", "Toscana" and "Ferrarese" are derived by mass selection.

How do I grow Cannabis Carmagnola?

Plants are transplanted into the ground from mid-May, once the last frosts have passed.

When transplanting, we recommend a minimum spacing of 50 cm in all directions. Ideal exposure is to full sun in warm, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Water frequently, especially at planting time. Mulching is recommended to keep the soil moist.

For more information, consult our guide to transplanting seedlings.

When and how to harvest and store Cannabis Carmagnola?

This variety is harvested after 8 to 10 weeks of flowering. The flowers are harvested for medicinal purposes in September or October, once they are rich in resin.

To take advantage of the health benefits of cannabis flowers, simply cut the stalk with secateurs and dry it upside down in an aired, dry, dark place.

To preserve flowers, store them in an airtight place, such as a glass jar.

Cannabis: recognizing male and female plants.

Many players on the market sell 100% feminized seeds. To achieve this, they are treated with colloidal silver or sodium chloride. Seedlings are produced using Kokopelli seeds, which are not treated. Consequently, and at the stage when the plants are shipped, it is impossible to know whether they are males or females.

cannabis mâle et femelle

Male plants have a genetic interest in being as tall as possible, so that pollen can be carried as far as possible by the wind. From the start of their growth, male plants will tend to tiger faster, to achieve their reproductive goal. Conversely, female plants will need a lot of nutrients to develop their flowers, and will favor their trunks and roots. Early in development, therefore, you need to be vigilant if some plants grow faster than others. Female plants develop filaments at the junction of branches, while male plants will develop pollen bells/pockets. If seed production is not desired, male plants must be destroyed. Often, the male plants will already have succeeded in forming flowers containing pollen, so handling must be delicate to avoid its spread in your crop.

Cannabis: medicinal for people and soil

Cannabis Carmagnola is also highly valued for its medicinal properties: it relieves chronic and acute pain, migraines, muscle spasms, as well as stress, anxiety and depression. In addition, Kompolti has powerful anti-vomiting properties, and a sedative effect that helps combat insomnia... Once dried, the flowers can be consumed as an herbal tea (a fatty substance, such as vegetable milk or coconut oil, should be added to the infusion so that the body assimilates the CBD more easily) or made into balms, oily macerates...

Hemp contains a high level of CBD (between 5% and 14%), making it ideal for oil extraction, infusions, aromatherapy or simply added to a salad.

Although CBD is mostly grown for medicinal purposes (use of the flowers), the male plants are excellent soil fertilizers.

As with many green manures, their powerful roots will break up the soil, making it looser and more fertile. Once mowed, it can be used as mulch to preserve soil integrity and prevent weed proliferation.
