Oenothera

Oenothera

Onagers are plants in the Onagraceae family and the Onagreae tribe. The Oenothera genus comprises around 80 species. The species in the Kokopelli catalog are yellow or white in color, depending on the season and harvest. The seeds of Oenothera biennis can be used to make an oil with many virtues, rich in fatty acids and omega-3, as well as its root - which can be cooked like salsify - its young leaves, raw or cooked, and its flowers to decorate salads. Oenothera caespitosa was used by Amerindian peoples mainly as a ground root compress on wounds and swellings. The Hopi used it ceremonially and as a tobacco substitute.
