St John's wort is a member of the Clusiaceae family. The Hypericum genus comprises around 400 species. They are mainly herbaceous species, annuals or perennials, and sometimes shrubs and even trees. The best-known species, St John's Wort - Hypericum perforatum - is used to treat melancholic moods, infections and burns, and for its sedative properties.
